South Lincoln is excited to welcome Dr. Stacy Cunningham as our new 8th grade ELA teacher! Dr. Stacy Cunningham looks forward to meeting the students and families of South Lincoln Elementary School. She is a Philadelphian who moved to Huntsville, AL many years ago to attend Alabama A&M University on a swimming scholarship. She loves her hometown, but she has definitely fallen in love with the South. She is a proud graduate of both Alabama A & M University and Samford University. She received her Bachelor of Science (1991) and Master’s degrees (1995) in Language Arts Education. She later earned her Educational Specialist (2011) and Doctoral (2022) degrees from Samford University. Dr. Cunningham has recently retired from the state of Alabama. Her many years of high school classroom instruction include teaching English 9, 10, 11, 12, AP Literature, Theatre 1 and 2, and ACT Prep. She also served as a curriculum specialist in a middle school. Dr. Cunningham loves to travel, shop, and cheer for her Philadelphia Eagles during football season. She is excited about sharing her love of English with her students. Go Eagles! #oneLC # EagleStrong

We are happy to welcome Mrs Mikayla back to South Lincoln for second grade! Hi everyone! I am Mikayla Jones. I live in Huntsville, AL with my husband, Cameron and our daughter, June. I graduated from Tennessee Tech in 2022 with a degree in early childhood education. I taught one year in Pre-K at South Lincoln, and I am so excited to be back to teach 2nd grade this year. I cannot wait to meet you and your sweet kiddos!

We look forward to Mrs. Tracy Pettie joining us as an interventionist! Tracy Pettie is originally from Limestone County, Alabama. She is a graduate of West Limestone High School. She received both of her Bachelor’s degrees in 1997 from Athens State University, one being in Early Childhood Education and the other in Elementary Education. She has a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Alabama A&M University. Tracy recently retired from Alabama after 26 years of teaching. Her experience includes fourteen years in third grade, five years in fifth grade, five years in first grade, and two years in sixth grade. She is happily married to her husband of 27 years, Jim Pettie. Jim and Tracy have two daughters, Avery (21), and Emery (20), who both attend Auburn University. When Tracy is not working with children at school, she loves to spend time with her family and hang out at the pool. She loves to travel, especially when the destination includes a beach. Mrs. Petite loves children and is looking forward to beginning her 27th year in education with the South Lincoln family!

Welcome to Ms. Leah Scarbrough as our new 6th grade ELA teacher! My name is Leah Scarbrough and I am from Millry, Alabama. I attended the University of Southern Mississippi and graduated in May with a degree in Elementary Education. I am 22 years old, and I love to travel, spend time with my friends and family, run, and read. Tennessee has always been one of my favorite places to travel, and I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to live here. I have always dreamed of being a teacher, and I am so excited that I get to live out my dream at South Lincoln! Go Eagles!

Welcome to South Lincoln, Ms. Lyda! Ms. Lyda is currently employed at East Limestone High School serving as the junior and senior guidance counselor. She is finishing her 28th year in education. She began her career as a biology, health, and science teacher for grades 7-10. From there, she began her guidance career spanning over 23 years serving grades kindergarten through 12th grade. Ms. Lyda has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Health Education from Troy University, a Master’s degree in school counseling from Jacksonville State University, and an Educational Specialist degree in school counseling from The University of Alabama. Being a life long learner has been a priority to her through her years as an educator, with a high priority being to encourage students, parents, and colleagues to further their education as well. Ms. Lyda is originally from Flat Rock, Alabama and resides in Athens. Her roots take her back to growing up in a rural area where hometown traditions are held high and school pride runs deep. She looks forward to encouraging her students to love and appreciate the exact same priorities and values that have been so important to her over the years. Ms. Lyda has two children, Bronson and Roman Schrimsher. Bronson (23), recently graduated from The University of North Alabama, majoring in Business and Project Management. He is currently enjoying the start of his new career and living life on his own. Roman (18), a 2024 East Limestone High School graduate, will be attending Troy University in the fall, pursuing a Business degree in Data Analytics. Ms. Lyda is excited about getting to know the students and families of South Lincoln and looks forward to serving the needs of students, parents, and the community.
